rice bran oil.

rice, a universal food staple, has been used in beauty treatments around the world. the oil derived from rice bran is a moisturizer which helps to brighten the skin and contains anti-oxidants. 

pomegranate oil.

pomegranate seed oil is obtained from the seeds of the pomegranate fruit. It has a very high concentration of punicic acid, a powerful anti-inflammatory. pomegranate has also demonstrated potent antioxidant activity, helps with skin elasticity, and is deeply nourishing for skin. 

castor seed oil.

castor oil is obtained from cold-pressing the seeds of the castor plant. it contains approximately 90% ricinoleic acid, which provides its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. castor oil is quite viscous and disperses pigment well. it’s often used as a “dirt magnet” to remove makeup and cleanse skin, as a skin conditioning agent, and a stabilizer of cosmetic products. our castor seed oil is certified organic.

pink grapefruit.

our grapefruit essential oil is cold-pressed from the peels of the fruit. it has a wonderfully citrus top note. it is astringent, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal. it is believed to be useful in the treatment of acne.

red mandarin.

red mandarin essential oil is cold-pressed from the peel of fully ripened fruits. it shows anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties. the aroma is both uplifting and deeply relaxing. 

lemon.

the humble lemon has a tremendous number of excellent qualities: anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-spasmodic, mood enhancer, analgesic, anti-anxiety, and skin penetration enhancer - to name a few. our lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the peels of the fruit and is certified organic. 

bergamot.

bergamot is a fragrant citrus fruit which is the size of an orange, but which has a green color similar to that of a lime. our bergamot essential oil is certified organic, and is cold-pressed from the peels of the fruit. bergamot has antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-oxidant properties. the scent is a top note which in aromatherapy has been shown to decrease anxiety and enhance the mood.

use as the first step in your skincare regime. drop onto your fingertips, then massage onto your face and neck for 30 seconds. add water, then continue massaging for another 30 seconds. rinse and follow with your second cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer.

use nightly as the first step in your double cleanse to remove the day, or twice daily when skin is extra stressed.

what is a facial cleansing oil?

facial cleansing oils are oil cleansers which act as multi-functional products. they can be used to remove makeup, as the first step of a double cleanse, or as a light moisturizer.

how do I use an oil as a makeup remover?

apply a small amount of oil to a clean cotton pad. swipe over your face and around the eyes gently to lift your makeup, oil, and sebum.

what is double-cleansing and why should I do it?

during a double-cleanse, you wash your face first with an oil-based cleanser to remove sebum, makeup, and sunscreen, and second, with a water-based cleanser to wash away sweat and dirt (because oil and water don’t mix, beauty). we love double-cleansing as it helps to limit breakouts and truly sets the stage for more effective absorption of your next layer of products.

how do I double-cleanse?

step 1: apply a few drops of your rice bran & pomegranate facial cleansing oil to your fingertips and massage over your dry face gently. add water and massage further to begin emulsifying the oil. rinse off with lukewarm water or remove with a damp towel.

step 2: apply a few pumps of your cream-based oatmeal cleansing milk to your fingertips and massage over your face gently. rinse off with lukewarm water and pat dry.

it doesn’t take long, and we promise you’ll notice the difference. while we recommend double-cleansing twice daily, reality tells us that an evening double-cleanse works best for most of us mere mortals.

how would I use the oil as a moisturizer?

after cleansing and toning, apply a few drops of the rice bran & pomegranate facial cleansing oil to damp skin. massage in gently over face and neck. we recommend this routine at night, as the cleansing oil is a bit heavier than our regular facial oils.

can men use this product?

while we love our men, this isn’t necessarily the best product for their skin. we use a mélange of essential oils to provide a bright citrus scent, and these can be irritating on skin which has just been shaved. now available: anokha man.
