Parvati, also known as Uma, Guari, or Shakti, is the goddess of fertility, love and devotion, and divine strength and power. She fell deeply in love with the god Shiva, but when he did not return her affection, she retreated into the forest where she entered a concentrated meditative state. The energy she generated was so great that Shiva was unable to resist her and made her his wife. Parvati is the recreative energy and power of Shiva, and as such she represents the bond that connects all beings to their means of spiritual release.
